Rue, Reisenauer take plea deals in DUI cases

Two individuals have been sentenced after striking unattended vehicles in New Rockford earlier this year.

On July 2, 2023, Nathan Rue of Eddy County struck a parked car while driving on 1st Avenue North in New Rockford with a blood alcohol content of 0.243 percent. The legal limit in North Dakota is 0.08 percent.

The documents also describe how the parked car suffered property damage and subsequently hit the car parked in front of it, causing damage to the second vehicle as well.

After originally pleading not guilty, Rue later amended his pleas to guilty to the Class B misdemeanor charges of DUI (second offense) and reckless driving.

On Wednesday, Oct. 11 he was handed his sentence.

Rue was sentenced to 360 days of unsupervised probation, during which time he must also partake in a 24/7 sobriety program. He was also assessed $1,750 in various fees and fines, and must complete 100 hours of community service.

Meanwhile, Christopher Reisenauer of New Rockford has also learned his fate after he too struck a parked car on the streets of New Rockford early this year.

“That said offense was committed when the Defendant was driving on 1st Street North in the City of New Rockford, Eddy County, and did hit a parked, unattended vehicle belonging to his neighbor,” states court documents.

Reisenauer was charged with duty upon striking an unattended vehicle, a Class A misdemeanor, as well as DUI of alcohol in excess of 0.16 percent.

After amending his pleas to guilty he was later assessed $1,110 in various fees and fines, and was required to undergo a chemical dependency evaluation.

On Oct. 12, Reisenauer was found in contempt for the DUI charge and will be required to serve 5 days as a remedial sanction if he does not file proof of obtaining a chemical dependency evaluation within 30 days.

Meanwhile, Eduardo Betancourth, who’s accused of getting into a bar fight at Buck-It’s Bar on Saturday, Oct. 7, and later resisting arrest and assaulting two deputies, has pleaded not guilty to all misdemeanor charges.

Betancourth is charged with criminal mischief, disorderly conduct and littering, all Class B misdemeanors, as well as preventing arrest, a Class A misdemeanor, and simple assault on a police officer, a Class C felony.

He will enter a plea for the felony charge at an arraignment yet to be scheduled. Betancourth has an initial appearance set for Nov. 9. He is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
