Sheyenne News: November 20, 2023

Last Tuesday morning, Jan Loe was among those who attended the memorial service for Eilene Carlson at Grace Lutheran Church in Sheyenne.

The Warwick girls' group met at the Sheyenne Senior Center last Thursday for noon lunch and visiting.

On Friday, Nov. 10, Ian Gilley and Joanna Larson traveled down to Denmark to visit a college friend from NDSU, Nils Hagen. Nils is from central Minnesota and now plays rugby for the Danish national team. Nils gave them a tour of his barracks where he works as a firefighter for the civil defense in Haderslev. On his way back to Stockholm, Ian also visited his friend Malin Heyden in Lund, Sweden. Malin was an exchange student in Ian’s class at Central Cass.

Joanna continued on via train south to Kiel, Germany, and spent a lovely day with Klara Marxen and her sister, Lenke, in their college town. Klara stayed with the Larsons as an exchange student at NR-S in 2017/2018. Klara, Lenke and Joanna went to a lighthouse point on the Baltic Sea, on a tour of campus and ate delicious German döner kebab. Klara sends her warmest greetings to all her Eddy County friends. Special hello to the Sheyenne Senior Center crew. She has been teaching her friends how to play Mexican train and says she misses Sheyenne and bingo lunches! Klara continues to play volleyball and is excited to see the NR-S girls going to state!

On Sunday, Joanna continued via train on a very quick tour of “N.D. towns in Germany” where she walked around the Marktplatz in Hamburg, Bremen, and Münster. Osnabrück was also a stopover. Hamburg’s Speicherstadt warehouse district with its striking brick architecture was especially impressive. Monday morning, Joanna picked up Peter Larson in Amsterdam, Netherlands to attend Agritechnica in Hanover, Germany.

Saturday, Jan and Steph Loe drove to Grand Forks where they met Jim and Marjean Woodrow and Pam Hill for noon lunch. Jan and Steph did a little shopping before returning home to Sheyenne.

Peter and Patti Larson attended the Harvest Bowl Awards Banquet in Fargo on Friday, Nov. 10.

Saturday, before the Bison football game, the Larsons took in tours of the NDSU Greenhouse Complex, Beef Cattle Research Complex and the Veterinary Diagnostic Lab. It was interesting to see some of the significant changes to campus that have occurred since the 1980s when they were in college.

Peter and Patti then joined John and Andrea Larson at the Scheels Arena Saturday night to see Chase play hockey against Grand Forks. Jerry and Joan Cudworth's grandson Bo Purdy is on the same team. It was great to see Chase and Bo get the win!

Jan Loe, Steph Loe and Bonnie Deegan had lunch in New Rockford on Sunday after worship service at Calvary Lutheran Church in Oberon.

Patti Clifton kept an appointment in New Rockford last Friday.
