Cardinals impress in Casselton

On the strength of four placers, the Carrington boys wrestling team scored 103.5 points to take seventh overall at the Lettermen's Tournament in Casselton, held Friday and Saturday, Jan. 5-6.

Corbin Clifton wrestled his way to a second place showing at the Lettermen's at 145 pounds, while Dru Carr took third at 121.

Both competitors had just one loss on the weekend, with Clifton falling to a Frazee, Minn. wrestler by pin late in the third period. To make the finals, he got a narrow 3-2 decision win over Kindred's Fisher Johnson. Carr took an 8-6 semifinal loss to Logan Potts of LaMoure, and had a pin, technical fall, and three decisions among his victories.

NR-S wrestler Skye Kramlich finished fifth at 107 pounds, going 5-2 with three pinfalls and two decision wins. At 139, Nic Garber won his first two matches, but lost his last three, ultimately taking sixth.

Wrestlers with three victories who just missed placement rounds included Kolby Zink (127), Gabe Clifton (133) and Kirby Freeman (215). The Cards were open at four weight classes.

The event, hosted by Central Cass, was won by the South Border Mustangs with 250 points. Back-to-back in second and third were Lisbon and Frazee, one half point behind the Broncos.
