Wednesday, Jan. 17, Peter Larson, Joanna Larson and Ian Gilley drove over to Maddock to have supper at Harriman’s. They noticed that many people were out and about on Central Avenue in Maddock, the first night of “warmer” weather in a while.
On Jan. 22, Sheyenne GRIT hosted artist Pieper Bloomquist of Grand Forks for a tour of the house at 337 Sheyenne Ave., Ostby Hall, Hendrickson Park, Main Street and Warsing Dam. Pieper specializes in Scandinavian folk art. She met with community historian, Stan Kruger, GRIT board member Joanna Larson, and active volunteers Kathy Albrecht, Dianne and Bob Hanson to hear stories of hope, resilience and future plans in Sheyenne. Pieper will create a piece featuring the GRIT project and Sheyenne. The art piece is commissioned by Strengthen N.D. as part of the Creative Community Solutions funding that GRIT was awarded. Some other communities that received funding will be featured as well. Pieper’s work has been showcased in many museums including in Scandinavia. The North Dakota Heritage Center in Bismarck is currently running an exhibition featuring her work through November 2024. You can also find her on Facebook.
