Archers on the mark in Carrington

More than 300 archers converged in Carrington on Saturday, Jan. 27. It was the second tournament of the season for the NR-S squad, and they found success at all levels of competition.

At the end of the day, it was a pair of eighth grade boys who came out on top for the Rockets, Koy Zieman and Sawyer Huso.

Zieman rose above the rest of the Rockets in the 3D tournament. He earned the gold medal in the middle school boys' division with a score of 288 and finished second overall among male archers.

Huso had the top score for NR-S in the bullseye tournament with a 282. He finished second overall among middle school boys. He also earned the silver medal for middle school boys in the 3D tournament with a score of 275.

For the girls, it was the Rockets' sole senior archer, Lora Wobbema, who led her team. She shot a 271 in 3D, earning a silver medal in the high school girls' division.

In addition to Huso, two more Rocket archers earned medals in the bullseye tournament. Layton Jacobson finished third among high school boys with a 279. Fifth grader Dylan Cudworth took home the fifth place medal in the elementary girls' division with a 223.

On the 3D side, three more came home with medals. Tyler Zieman finished in third place among middle school boys with a score of 272, Layton Jacobson came in fourth among high school boys with a 276, and Maddie Schaefer brought home the fifth place medal in the elementary girls' division with a 215.

Top 10 finishers in the bullseye tournament included Braylon Alfstad (272), Tyler Zieman (271), Koy Zieman (269) and August Meier (264), who finished seventh, eighth, ninth and 10th among middle school boys, respectively. Bradyn Collier matched Koy's score of 269 and finished in ninth among high school boys, while Lance Ziegler rounded out the top 10 in middle school boys with a 267.

Taylin Jacobson had the best score among the Rocket girls in the bullseye tournament. She shot a 265 and finished seventh overall among elementary girls. Jack Skogen took the 10th overall spot in the elementary boys' division with a score of 228, and Alexa Allmaras made the top 10 among elementary girls with a score of 195.

Top 10 finishers in 3D included Bradyn Collier and Eli Alfstad, sixth and seventh among high school boys. Beau Baumbach (262), Braylon Alfstad (261) and Ayden Gable (258) were eighth, ninth and 10th overall in the middle school boys' division, respectively. Cordell Myhre took the No. 8 spot among elementary boys with a 232, and Kynlee Zieman finished 10th in elementary girls with a 180.

More than 300 archers from 20 schools competed in the Carrington tournament.

Next weekend, the Rockets are on the road to Wilton for both bullseye and 3D competition on Saturday, Feb. 10.
