Rockets split in district play

Fall to May-Port-C-G, defeat Lady Titans

The New Rockford-Sheyenne Rockets were in district play on Saturday, Jan. 27 versus the May-Port-C-G Patriots and Monday, Jan. 29 against the Griggs-Midkota Lady Titans.

Going into the game on Saturday, the Patriots were still undefeated with a blazing 13-0 record.

The Rockets seemed to keep up with the Patriots in quarter one, as they trailed by only four points.

But the Patriots momentum kept growing. Twenty-one points were scored by the Patriots, with May-Port-C-G senior athlete Rylee Satrom leading the way.

The Rockets were able to score 15 points with the help of Kaiya O'Connor's three 3-pointers. But it wasn't enough to catch up to the Patriots.

The Patriots held a 10-point lead going into the half.

And the Patriots kept pushing in the second half, with Satrom at hand.

The Rockets scored 12 points in the third quarter, with seven coming from Kelsie Belquist.

But the Patriots had outscored the Rockets, as they scored 17 points. Of those 17 points, nine came from Satrom.

Ava Peterson was the lone Rocket to score in the fourth quarter with a total of four points, which wasn't enough to catch up to the Patriots.

The Rockets took a tough 40-58 loss over the Patriots.

Belquist led the Rockets with 14, followed by O'Connor with 12.

Scoring in double digits for the Patriots were Satrom with 21, Raegen Zerface with 15 and Maysa Larson with 12.

The junior varsity Rockets came up short 25-49 to the Patriots.

Bailey Jacobson and Tillie Swart led the Rockets with seven each. As for MPCG, Carissa Mueller was the top scorer with 10, followed by Kylie Kroeplin with nine.

Monday's game, however, ended in quite a different outcome for the Rockets.

The Rockets went out in full force to score 13 points to the Griggs-Midkota Lady Titans' six in the first quarter.

And just like deja vu, the Rockets added another 13 points in the second quarter to the Lady Titan's six.

At the half, the Rockets led 26-12.

The Rockets kept up their momentum going into the second half, with scoring in the double digits once again.

However, the Lady Titans started to push back a little in the final quarter. Griggs-Midkota junior Kylie Johnson scored four of the nine points for the Lady Titans.

But they couldn't overcome the Rockets lead in the fourth, giving the Rockets a 51-28 win.

Lead scorers for the Rockets were Kaiya O'Connor with 22 and Kelsie Belquist with 17.

Kelsey Johnson led the Lady Titans with nine, followed by Kylie Johnson with six.

The junior varsity Lady Titans defeated the Rockets 45-36, with Kelsey Johnson leading the Lady Titans with 10 points.

Top scorers for the Rockets were Jaida Schumacher with 11 and Emmie Belquist with eight.
