Sheyenne: Feb. 12, 2024

Joanna Larson attended the Sunflower Production meeting at the Eddy Co. Extension office on January 31. Lacey Zahradka, Trading Manager at ADM in Enderlin, reported that the market outlook on sunflowers for 2024 is very negative and acres are predicted to be drastically down.

On Thursday, Feb. 1, several Sheyenne ranchers ran into each other at the sale barn in Napoleon. It was unusual to have warm weather for selling calves! Earlier snowstorms in Nebraska and further South had caused feedlots to stop taking cattle and some barns even canceled sales back in January. This and the previous frigid weather created a pile up of calves. It was a long sale day with over 5,500 head of cattle being auctioned. The cattle market remained strong. Rindy’s Sheyenne Bar has started offering live auctions on their TV on sale days for those that may want to watch and bid online.

On Saturday, Feb. 3, Stan and Marilynn Kruger hosted Michelle Gilley, Ian Gilley and Joanna Larson for a tour of the Sheyenne Depot and Stan’s greenhouse. They enjoyed visiting about gardening over fresh baked bread. Then Ian and Joanna went to New Rockford to visit Grandma Marge Anderson. Douglas Cudworth also stopped by during the visit.

The First Lutheran Church in Sheyenne held its annual meeting following worship on Sunday, Feb. 4, with a barbecue lunch.

Ian Gilley took Patti Larson out for supper on Sunday, Feb. 4, to First Lutheran Church in New Rockford for the men’s waffles and sausage fundraiser.

Much community chatter has been heard about the status of the GRIT house at 337 Sheyenne Ave. It is still for sale.

The next Foot Care Clinic with Eddy County Public Health is scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 22, starting at 8:30 a.m. at the Sheyenne Senior Center.
