Hitting marks: Rockets excel at annual CNDC Indoor in Minot

Another meet, more top placings for the newly-co-oped New Rockford-Sheyenne and Four Winds track and field team.

On Thursday, March 28, the Rockets competed in the annual CNDC Indoor held at the Minot State University Dome.

Four Winds senior, Deng Deng, earned top marks in not one, but two individual events – long jump and high jump. Like the Great North Regional Open, Deng earned first place in long jump, this time with a jump of 21 feet, 1 inch. Deng competed in the boys' high jump event for the first time, and snatched another first place finish with a jump of 6 foot flat.

Deng was also a part of the boys' 4x160-meter relay team, alongside Micah Dutch, Easton Benz and Bennett Meier, that took second place with a time of 1:18.16. The Rockets came up short behind the Harvey/Wells County team – made up by Carson Heilman, Keaton Keller, Kayl Sieg and Tallen Thorson – who took first place with a time of 1:16.41.

The Rockets had two other 4x160-meter relay teams compete on Thursday. Team two consisted of Thomas Allmaras, Jackson Schumacher, Malaki Kukowski and Vinnie Ruppell. They placed sixth overall with a time of 1:22.26. Marial Deng, Keyshawn St. Pierre, Koy Zieman and Dalen Leftbear made up the third team for the Rockets and took 10th place overall with a time of 1:24.83.

The Rockets also had put together a 4x400-meter relay team – Marial Deng, Thomas Allmaras, Aiden Riggle and Dalen Leftbear – who took second place with a time of 4:00.55, behind the Bottineau relay team.

Four Winds freshman Micah Dutch earned fifth place in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.03 seconds, and sixth place in the 55-meter dash with a time of 6.73 seconds.

Easton Benz brought home two fourth place finishes – one in long jump with a jump of 19 feet, 11 inches and one in triple jump with a jump of 38 feet, 3 1/2 inches. Benz also secured a seventh place finish in the 55-meter dash with a time of 6.74 seconds.

Other top 10 placings for the Rockets came from DJ Mudgett, Bennett Meier and Dalen Leftbear.

Mudgett threw the shot put 39 feet, 3 inches to earn sixth place in the boys' shot put event. Bennett Meier and Dalen Leftbear competed alongside one another in the boys' high jump event, with Meier taking fourth with a jump of 5 feet, 6 inches and Leftbear taking eighth after clearing 5 feet, 4 inches.

Meier also snagged a seventh place finish in boys' long jump with a personal best jump of 19 feet, 2 inches.

The Benson County Wildcats and the Harvey/Wells County (H/WC) boys' teams also secured some first place finishes at the CNDC.

Benson County senior Logan Fossen swept his competitors in the 55-meter dash and took first place with a time of 6.40 seconds, with Carson Heilman of H/WC following in second with a time of 6.57 seconds.

H/WC junior Kayl Sieg topped the boys' 200-meter dash with a time of 24.21 seconds and Tallen Thorson was the champ in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 7.90 seconds.

Holdyn Jacobson of Benson County took first place in the 3,200-meter run with a time of 11:17.18. Jacobson also earned first place in the boys' pole vault with a personal best of 10 feet, 6 inches.

Benson County junior Carter Engebretson took second place in the boys' shot put event with a personal best of 44 feet, 9 inches behind first place finisher Nate Tastad from Rolette/Wolford, who threw a total of 46 feet, 9 inches.

The Benson County boys' team placed in second with a total of 82 points, with H/WC following in third with 71.5 points and the Rockets in fourth with 68.5 points.

The Rocket girls also had top marks, with most coming from the relays.

The girls' 4x160-meter relay team – made up by Emmie Belquist, Jaida Schumacher, Katie Allmaras and Ava Peterson placed second overall with a time of 1:28.85 behind the Bottineau team that placed in first.

Belquist, Peterson, Jaida Schumacher and Kaci Weisenburger made up the girls 4x400-meter relay team that also took second place with a time of 4:31.83. Taking first in that event was the team from Shiloh Christian with a time of 4:25.33.

Beyond the second place finishes in the relays, Belquist also snagged a second place finish for herself in girls' long jump with a personal best of 16 feet, 4 inches.

Jaida Schumacher also competed in long jump and placed fourth overall – also with a personal best – with a jump of 15 feet, 7 inches.

Other top 10 placings for the Rockets came from K. Allmaras in the 200-meter dash and Jaida Schumacher in the 55-meter dash. K. Allmaras placed seventh in the girls 200-meter dash with a time of 29.14 seconds and Jaida Schumacher placed eighth in the 55-meter dash with a personal best of 7.59 seconds.

The Harvey/Wells County and Benson County girls also snagged a few top placings at the CNDC Indoor.

Topping the girls 200-meter dash was Christalea Wagner from Harvey/Wells County with a time of 27.43 seconds.

Aubrey Kenner from Benson County took the cake in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:39.70 and Keyara Lundstrom, also from Benson County, took first in the 3,200-meter run with a time of 13:35.48.

The Benson County girls finished in fourth place with a total of 52 points, followed by New Rockford-Sheyenne with 32 and Harvey/Wells County with 31.

The Rockets are set to compete at their first outdoor meet of the season, the Bison Stampede, in Hazen on Tuesday, April 9. This meet is subject to change.
