Letter to the Editor: Candidate support

I confess to spending too little time understanding the policies and personalities affecting North Dakota at the state level. Contributing to my neglect was the confidence that came from knowing that the North Dakota legislature was solidly in the hands of Republicans. Unfortunately that confidence was unfounded.

Our state government has been expanding its expenditures at an unsustainable pace. The spending is so excessive that North Dakota now spends more per capita than any other state in the country. If you want to know how and why this is happening, go to leginate.com and review the voting records of the legislators. Many republicans have a well-documented history of voting from progressive policies.

District 14 House reps Robin Weisz and Jon Nelson have a record of voting with Democrats a majority of the time. Senator Jerry Klein is more moderate, voting with Republicans slightly more often than not. One thing all three of our representatives have in common is experience. All three began their legislative careers 28 years ago.

People across North Dakota are waking up to the fact that sending the same people to Bismarck will get the same results. Fortunately, new candidates are stepping forward in an effort to bring conservative principles to Bismarck.

I enthusiastically support the endorsed candidates from District 14, Larry Danduran and Jason Steidl, for the House of Representatives, and Karisa Grothe for the Senate. They are courageously responding to the need for conservative voices in Bismarck. Opportunities exist to meet these candidates by attending one of their town hall events, where you can also learn more about the Leginate voting record analysis. Upcoming events include meetings at the New Rockford Eagles Club on April 19, and at the Harvey Eagles Club on April 26. Both begin with a social at 6 p.m. and presentation at 7 p.m. Now is the time to understand and participate in the political process at the state level. I suspect that may be the only way to effect change farther from home.
