Cardinals fall to Tommies in home opener

Carrington freshman Calleigh Hewitt pitched all six innings for the Cardinals on Thursday, April 11 against the Thompson Tommies.
Even with a momentary bout of freezing rain that hit the City Park complex on Thursday, April 11, the Carrington softball team managed to get in a game with the Thompson Tommies.
The visitors are a returning Class B tournament qualifier from last spring, and served notice that they should be in the conversation once again with a 20-3 win over the Cards.
Thompson rapped out 19 hits in the victory. Sydney Schwabe had three hits from the leadoff spot, and Kya Hurst and Cindy Eliason each scored three runs for the Tommies in the win.
Dru Schwab got the victory in the circle, striking out seven Carrington batters.
For Carrington's part, they had five hits in the contest. Lauren Hendrickson had a run-scoring double, and Kaydence VanRay drove in another with a single. Calleigh Hewitt had the other RBI with a groundout.
Katie Allmaras, the team's lone player from New Rockford-Sheyenne, had an immediate impact in her first action of the season, getting a hit and scoring a run.
Isabel Wendel and Hewitt had the other hits, and Hewitt was the losing pitcher for Carrington.
Two games to be held this past week were rescheduled. The April 18 game with Northern Lights was moved to Friday, May 3 at 2 p.m. in Rolla, and last Friday's home game with Nelson County/Midkota changed to this Tuesday, April 23, in Carrington at 2:30 p.m. Both games are Region 2 contests.
