The Carrington Cardinals softball team has finally added a win to their book.
On Monday, April 22, the Cardinals traveled to Minto, N.D. to take on Region II competitors – the Midway/Minto Mustangs.
The Cardinals started out on a high note, with both Calleigh Hewitt and Kaydence VanRay scoring in the first inning.
However, the Mustangs were also playing well and scored four runs also in the first.
In the bottom of the third, the Mustangs were able to score once again, holding a 5-2 lead over the Cards.
But the Cards seemed to fire back up in the top of the fourth, with Brynn Smith and Lauren Hendrickson scoring.
The Cards scored three more runs in the fifth, followed by three more in the seventh to take the 10-6 region win.
On Tuesday, April 23, the Cardinals hosted another Region II competitor – the Nelson County/Midkota Chargers.
Unlike Monday's game, both teams had a slow start.
But the bottom of the third brought out the points for the Cards, as they scored three runs.
The Chargers added six runs between the fifth and sixth innings.
The Cards tried to push back, but came up short with only two runs in the seventh inning.
The Cardinals traveled to Grafton on Thursday, April 26 and will host the Larimore Chargers on Monday, April 29 at 4 p.m.
Both of these games will be included in the May 6 edition of the New Rockford Transcript.
