Boys' 4x200-meter relay, Knatterud state qualify at Mariya Tate

Three more state qualifications have been achieved by the New Rockford-Sheyenne boys’ track team – those coming from the 100-meter dash, the 200-meter dash and the 4x200-meter relay.

On Thursday, April 25, the Rockets track and field team traveled to Rugby to compete in the Mariya Tate Memorial.

NR-S senior Connor Knatterud blazed his opponents in the boys’ 100-meter dash and the 200-meter dash. Knatterud took first place in the 100-meter dash with a state-qualifying time – and personal record – of 11.21 seconds. He also took first place in the 200-meter dash with a state-qualifying time of 22.87 seconds.

Knatterud also ran as the anchor in the boys’ 4x200-meter relay along with Micah Dutch, Marial Deng and Deng Deng. The boys’ 4x200-meter relay placed second overall behind Hazen with a state qualifying time of 1:34.38.

D. Deng, Dutch, C. Knatterud and Bennett Meier ran the boys’ 4x100-meter relay and also took second place with a state-qualifying time of 44.79 seconds. The Rockets 4x100-meter relay had state qualified back on April 9 in Kindred, with Easton Benz, Porter Granger, D. Deng and C. Knatterud with a time of 45.55 seconds.

NR-S freshman Malaki Kukowski shocked his teammates as he leaped into first place of the boys’ long jump event with a final jump of 19 feet, 10 inches – just under a foot from state qualifying.

D. Deng also added a first place finish for the Rockets’ boys in high jump, with a personal best – and state qualifying – jump of 6 feet, 3 inches. B. Meier and M. Deng also competed in the boys’ high jump and placed second and fourth, respectively.

NR-S senior DJ Mudgett made his mark in both discus and shot put for the Rockets. Mudgett took second place in discus with a personal best throw of 127 feet, 4 inches and fourth place in shot put with a throw of 41 feet, 1 1/2 inches.

D. Deng and Dutch competed alongside one another in the boys’ 100-meter dash and placed third and fourth, respectively.

Kage Walford competed in boys' javelin and placed fourth with a throw of 137 feet flat.

The Rockets’ boys’ team tied for first place with the Benson County team with a total of 101 points.

As for the girls’ side of things, Emmie Belquist and Ava Peterson were the top placers for the Rockets. Belquist earned third place overall in the girls’ long jump with a jump of 16 feet, 2 inches. Belquist also placed fifth in the girls’ 300-meter hurdles with a time of 51.53 seconds. Peterson earned third place in the girls’ javelin event with a throw of 108 feet, 4 inches.

NR-S senior Lora Wobbema snagged a fourth place finish in the girls’ discus event with a throw of 94 feet, 3 inches.

The girls’ 4x100-meter relay – made up of Paige Knatterud, Ava Peterson, L. Meier and Katie Allmaras – finished in fifth place with a time of 54.26 seconds.

The Rockets’ girls team placed seventh overall with a score of 40 points.

The Rockets competed at the Howard Wood Dakota Relays in Sioux Falls, S.D. on May 3-4 and the Carrington Kiwanis/Lions Meet in Carrington on Saturday, May 4.

The Rockets are set to compete at the CNDC Outdoor in Fessenden on Tuesday, May 7 at 2 p.m.
