Rocket archers compete at Western Nationals

Jacobson 5th in 3D, elementary team 8th in bullseye

For the second year in a row, the Rocket archery program has produced a team that's competitive on the national stage.

Another group of 27 archers from New Rockford-Sheyenne boarded the bus to Sandy, Utah at the end of April – this time it was the youngest among them.

The state champion elementary team shot both bullseye and 3D over two days and ended the tournament in eighth place out of 26 teams for bullseye.

Meanwhile, Layton Jacobson competed at nationals as a state champion for the third year in a row, his first as a high school archer. He finished fifth overall in 3D with a score of 288 and got called to the big stage for an award.

Koy Zieman and Braylon Alfstad also had their shot, both competing in the middle school boys' division as individuals. Alfstad scored a 282 in 3D and finished in the top 10 – ninth place to be exact. Zieman put up the second best bullseye score for the Rockets with a 272 and finished in 79th place overall amidst a competitive middle school slate.

Several Rocket archers earned personal best scores. Lydia Huso scored her personal best in bullseye, which was also best among the elementary archers, 260, and finished in 27th out of 291 elementary girls.
