Rocket golf back in action

The New Rockford-Sheyenne Rockets golf team is back on the greens, and they're already off to a solid start.

On the team this year are Kage Walford, Jackson Schumacher, Keaton Cudworth, Easton Simon and Shaun Reimche. Coaching the team this year is Jacob Bilden.

The Rockets got started with great results at their first two meets of the season in Hillsboro and Casselton, and then they returned home for a hometown meet in New Rockford.

Only three teams competed at the New Rockford meet on Wednesday, April 24, those being the Rockets, the Carrington Cardinals and Griggs-Midkota Titans, and each team played the first nine holes on what was a very windy afternoon.

Despite the wind, it was NR-S that emerged from the meet on top, taking first place with 175 points. Carrington finished in second place with 184 points while Cooperstown took third place with a score of 188.

Meanwhile, it was a familiar face that finished on top individually.

Jackson Schumacher – who enjoyed a fantastic season last year which saw him qualify for state golf – took first place at the New Rockford meet with a score of 38 on a par 36.

Schumacher had one birdie, five pars and just three bogeys, earning him the lowest score.

He wasn't the only Rocket to finish near the top however, as Keaton Cudworth finished with a score of just 40, tying for second place with James Woodstead of Cooperstown.

In third was Carrington's Grady Shipman with a score of 41, followed closely by Payden Becherl of Cooperstown with a score of 43.

Following the meet in New Rockford, the Rockets brought three golfers to a meet on Monday, April 29 at Village Green in Moorhead, where the Rockets once again had a good showing.

Unfortunately, with only three Rockets attending, NR-S did not qualify to place as a team, but individually all three placed earned solid results.

Schumacher was the top scoring Rocket with a score of 92, followed by Reimche who scored a 97 and Kage Walford who scored a 98.

The NR-S golf team's next event will be a meet in Oxbow on Monday, May 6.
