Sheyenne: May 13, 2024

Jeff and Denise Labrensz attended the Legends of Rock concert at the Civic Center in Jamestown on Saturday, April 27. This date was also their 50th wedding anniversary. Over the years, there have been many different weather events from 90 degrees the day they were married to up to 20 inches of snow some years on this day. This year it was rather gloomy and chilly.

The Sheyenne community sends condolences to the family and friends of Arlyss Faye Loe who died Tuesday, April 30, at Sweetwater Retirement Community in Billings, Mont. Peter Larson's cousin, Arlyss Faye Borgeson, grew up in Sheyenne, graduating from Sheyenne High School in 1950. She taught school for 37 years. Her funeral was May 6 in Billings.

Eunice Throlson, Bonnie Deegan, Karen Birkeland, Marilynn Kruger, Randy Keller and Patti Larson got together Wednesday, May 1, to quilt at Grace Lutheran Church parish hall. Kathy Anderson of New Rockford had donated a box of backing fabric and sheets that the group prepared for use. Two quilts were tied and finished before the group was joined by Stan Kruger, Jan Loe and Pastor Jeff for coffee. Next month, quilting will be on Wednesday, June 5. Everyone welcome.

Our sympathies to Mitch, Father Greg and Clinton Haman after the sudden passing of their dad, Ed Haman, last week. His funeral service was Monday at St. John's Catholic Church in New Rockford. Ed had been a salesman for Warren Implement and worked with area farmers/ranchers when he worked for Wishek Livestock and NRCS. Most recently, he was happy to serve as he bartended at Rindy's Sheyenne Bar.

Patti Larson and sister-in-law Karen Anderson took their mom, Marge Anderson, out for lunch in Carrington on her birthday last Friday.

The Hendrickson Park was abuzz with activity beginning Friday after work. Dave Chenze and Dave Chenze Jr., along with Evan Swenson, got started in earnest removing the 20 hazardous trees and over 30 stumps that were identified by the Sheyenne Park Board to be cleaned up as part of the N.D. Forest Service BIL grant. Dave, Dave Jr. and Evan had the equipment, skills and energy to do the hard work that took place over three long days. They definitely went well beyond expectations. Hendrickson Park looks great – welcoming and green after the recent rains. Volunteers will be planting the new trees once the spots are chosen.

Sheyenne GRIT hosted a large crowd at bingo Saturday night. Kim Brown called, and Darci Joseph, Joanna Larson and Patti Larson sold cards. Laurie Westby and Ian Gilley served lunch. Blackout did not go out, so May 11 it will be $200.

Peter and Patti Larson enjoyed breakfast at the New Rockford Fire Hall Sunday morning at the Fill the Boot fundraiser. Many Sheyenne residents attended in appreciation of how the departments work together and back each other up when needed.

Sunday afternoon, Patti Larson attended the piano recital in New Rockford at St. John's Catholic Church.

Patti Clifton and Deanna Erickson joined friends and family at the visitation prior to the Vigil Service for Ed Haman at St. John's Catholic Church in New Rockford Sunday evening.

In Sheyenne, 301 Pleasant Avenue was bustling with activity over the past few days as volunteers emptied the garages in preparation for demolition, making way for a house to be moved onto the property. Ted Robinette worked for a couple of days, assisted by Kyle Charboneau, Eva and Angela Garcia, and Jon, Michelle, Cameron and Ian Gilley. Patti and Joanna Larson laid free stuff on the curb for people to happily pick up.

Monday, Jan Loe went to Devils Lake to take advantage of a shredding truck. She also did a little shopping while there.
