Schumacher bound for state in 100-meter dash

NR-S eighth grader Jaida Schumacher punched her ticket to the state track meet at the Panther Booster in Rugby on Monday, May 13.

Schumacher ran her absolute best in the girls' 100-meter dash in Rugby to qualify for state and finish in third with a time of 12.92 seconds.

Schumacher also ran in the girls' 4x100- and 4x200-meter relays with Lucy Meier, Katie Allmaras and Emmie Belquist. The girls' 4x200 finished in first with a state-qualifying time of 1:49.98, and in the 4x100-meter relay placed in second with a state-qualifying time of 52.60 seconds.

Emmie Belquist competed in the girls' 300-meter hurdles and the 100-meter hurdles. She received first place in the girls' 300-meter hurdles with a state-qualifying time of 48.07 seconds and second in the girls' 100-meter hurdles with a time of 16.99 seconds. Katie Allmaras also competed in the girls' 300-meter hurdles and finished in fourth place with a time of 51.02 seconds.

NR-S sophomore Ava Peterson took first place overall with a throw of 114-11.

The girls' team finished in third place overall with a total of 58 points.

Seniors Deng Deng, Connor Knatterud, Dalen Leftbear and DJ Mudgett led the boys' team.

Deng Deng competed in the boys' long jump event and finished in first place with a state-qualifying distance of 21 feet, 9 inches. With this distance, he also broke the New Rockford-Sheyenne school record in this event, which was set back in 2019 by Bo Belquist with a jump of 21-8 3/4.

Connor Knatterud competed in both the boys' 100-meter dash and the 200-meter dash. In the 100, he placed first overall with a state-qualifying time of 11.23 seconds. In the 200, he finished in second with a state-qualifying time of 23.14 seconds.

DJ Mudgett earned a first place finish in boys' shot put with a throw of 43 feet, 6 inches. He also competed in boys' discus and took fifth place with a throw of 125-2.

Dalen Leftbear took his first place finish in the boys' high jump event with a jump of 6 feet, 2 inches.

B. Meier and M. Deng competed alongside one another in the boys' high jump event. Meier placed second overall with a jump of 5 feet, 10 inches and Deng placed in fifth with a jump of 5 feet, 8 inches. Meier also competed in the boys' long jump and earned a fourth place finish with a distance of 20 feet, 6 inches.

Porter Granger, on the other hand, competed in the 100-meter dash and the 200-meter dash, where he finished in fourth and fifth place, respectively.

The boys' 4x200-meter relay team – made up of B. Meier, Granger, D. Deng and C. Knatterud – ran a state-qualifying time of 1:33.51 to take first place. Micah Dutch, Granger, C. Knatterud and D. Deng made up the boys' 4x100-meter relay team that finished in second place with a state-qualifying time of 44.65 seconds.

The boys' team finished in first place overall with a total of 95.33 points.

The Rockets competed in the North Central Region meet in Rugby on Friday, May 17. This meet will be covered in the May 27 edition of the New Rockford Transcript.
