The Hendrickson Park was crawling with volunteers on May 9 and 10. Joel Allen and Grace Ivesdal, community forestry specialists from Bismarck and Fargo respectively, came to Sheyenne Thursday to inspect the park grant project and to demonstrate the proper planting of the very nice bare root tree stock. Tim Hartl, Ron Throlson, Kim Brown, Kathy Albecht, Patti and Joanna Larson and Michelle Gilley worked alongside the specialists to plant five maple and five honey locust throughout the east end of the park to fill in where declining trees were removed. Stan Kruger, our resident expert who has personally planted several hundred trees between the Prairie Dawn Community Orchard and his own yard, stopped by to see the demonstration. The group all enjoyed tacos at Route 281 after the tree planting. Friday, another group showed up in the afternoon and planted the remaining 10 trees on the west end of the park. Karen Rieger, Tara Hanson, Dianne Hanson, Patti Larson, Camden and Gavin Rieger placed five Prairie Expedition American Elm (dutch elm resistant) and five Corinthian Linden in the open spaces. Tuesday evening was a productive time on Main Street. Gavin Brown started scraping paint on his latest project - the old Ostby Oil Service Station building. The community is excited to see the restoration of that property take place. With support from Gavin's dad Dave Brown, grandpa and grandma Dwain and Connie Brown, the wheels are turning!
