Summer reading program to begin Monday, June 3

The Eddy-New Rockford Library's Summer Reading Program will start on Monday, June 3. Youth can come in and sign up anytime after then. The first 20 kids to sign up will get a free canvas tote.

There will not be a kick-off party this year. Instead the library will host an end-of-summer party in August for all the summer reading participants (date TBD). This summer kids can pick a prize for every book read, and for every fifth book read youth are put into a drawing for a tablet.

The summer reading program is important to help stop the "summer slide," as kids can lose two months of reading and math per summer. Parents can help with that by encouraging kids to read 20 minutes a day through joining the program at the Eddy-New Rockford Library.

The library is located at 10 8th St N. Hours are Monday through Friday from 12-6 p.m. Follow their Facebook page for updates.
