Celebrate Independence Day with the Freedom 5K/10K Run/Walk in downtown New Rockford.
The longtime New Rockford tradition is coming back with a twist, as this year’s event will also feature a 10K for those looking for more of a challenge.
Taking place on Friday, July 5, at 8 a.m., runners will begin their journey right outside the New Rockford Transcript office on Central Avenue.
They’ll make their way west along 1st Avenue North after going through Centennial Park, and ultimately find themselves crossing the Buchli Bridge into the Archie and Jesse Campbell Memorial Park.
That’s where those running the 10K will break off from the rest of the group, getting onto River Drive and heading over to and around the Reservoir, before coming back to the park and onto the 5K path.
The full map of the Freedom 5K and 10K routes is printed in the ad on page 10.
Registration begins at 7 a.m. at the Transcript office, 817 Central Avenue in New Rockford, on July 5, and the race will get underway at 8 a.m.
Early bird registration is $30 for adults, and $25 for youth 12 and under through Friday, June 21. Registration increases to $40 for adults and $30 for youth as of June 22, and the same full price registration will be open the day of the event.
All net proceeds generated from the event will be donated to veteran organizations in Eddy County.
As for the race itself, prizes will be awarded to the top three overall adults as well as the fastest girl and boy age 12 and under.
A t-shirt is also guaranteed for all who register on or before June 21, and while supplies last for registrations entered June 22 or after.
Those interested in participating in this year’s Freedom 5K/10K can download a paper registration form to fill out and drop off with payment at the Transcript office by going to the Transcript’s Facebook page and finding the link, or by scanning the QR code on the advertisement for the Freedom 5K/10K on page 10. Forms are also available at the New Rockford Transcript office.
