On Monday, June 3, Bonnie Deegan was in Fargo for a medical appointment. Prior to her appointment, Bonnie met her sister Margaret Brink from South Carolina for a visit and lunch.
Fourteen children from seven families joined Michelle Gilley, NDSU Extension Agriculture and Natural Resources Agent, at the Community Garden in Sheyenne on Monday, June 3. It was the first of weekly youth garden club hands-on lessons that will be offered every Monday evening from 3-4 p.m., weather permitting. The first week, the kids planted tomatoes, tomatillos, pumpkin, squash, lettuce, greens, carrots, potatoes, cantaloupe, watermelon, okra, kohlrabi, radishes, marigolds and zinnias.
Peter, Patti and Joanna Larson attended the funeral service for Dennis Bergrud on Monday afternoon, June 3, at Evans Funeral Home in New Rockford. It was standing room only as friends and neighbors came together to offer condolences and support to the family.
New Rockford-Sheyenne School Board election was held on Tuesday, June 4. The former Sheyenne District holds two seats on the seven member board. Patti Larson decided not to run after two three-year terms. LeAnn Drake ran and will begin serving with the July meeting. Kyle Alfstad is the other Sheyenne member. He is on year two of his three-year term. Three seats are from the former New Rockford District and the remaining two are at-large. Matt Pfeiffer filled the New Rockford open seat. Todd Allmaras accepted his second term at-large.
LaRhae Dodds, Karen Birkeland, Bonnie Deegan and Patti Larson finished two quilts on Wednesday, June 5, and laid out a third. Jan Loe joined the quilters for coffee afterward. They won't meet in July. The next quilting will be Wednesday, Aug. 7.
Dylan Rue volunteered to put cattle panels around six of the newly-planted trees at Hendrickson Park. He knows from experience how important it is to protect the young trees from deer.
Patti Larson and her mother Marge Anderson visited Charlotte Koepplin who is recovering from foot surgery at the Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd on Thursday, June 6.
Thursday, June 6, Patti Clifton kept a medical appointment at Carrington Health Center.
Jan and Steph Loe had lunch with Jason Stenberg, Brocket, and Dave and Nadine Salwey from Iowa in Devils Lake on Thursday, June 6.
Dave Karlsbraaten called bingo on Saturday, June 8, for the Sheyenne Fire Department. Bob Hanson and David Rieger sold cards. Diane Karlsbraaten, Ken and Becky Ames worked in the kitchen. Saturday, June 15, blackout will be $200. Sheyenne GRIT will host.
Patti Larson stopped out at the Lorna and Russell Hanson home to get some rhubarb on Friday, June 7. Later that day, Patti brought some rhubarb dessert and visited Stan, Marilynn and Dawn Kruger.
Dave Chenze and Dave Chenze Jr. finished the new patio and sidewalk in front of the Log Cabin Museum in Sheyenne last week. The Chenze family then helped seed grass along the walkway before it rained.
Bonnie Deegan and Jan Loe attended worship at Calvary Lutheran Church in Oberon on Sunday. Later, they were joined by Steph Loe and enjoyed lunch at the Buffet House in Devils Lake.
Upcoming events start early for the annual Independence Day celebration in Sheyenne:
• Saturday, June 29, Bingo at Ostby Hall at 7 p.m.
• Sunday, June 30, Hendrickson Park will be bustling with the Sheyenne NDRA Rodeo. Slack will start at 9 a.m. with the Rodeo start time at 1 p.m.
• The annual parade along Main Street will start at 11:30 a.m. on July 4. For an entry in the parade, call (701) 996-2121.
• Sheyenne's annual Stone Pit BBQ begins at 12 noon at Ostby Hall. Always a great meal and time to visit!
• The Log Cabin Museum, next to Ostby Hall, will be open from 2-4 p.m. Be sure to stop in!
• The Sheyenne Senior Center will also be open from 2-4 p.m. Stop in for a visit and a cup of coffee!
