Cudworth propels Sox to victory over Storm

Keaton Cudworth has pitched another gem, this time throwing a complete game shutout against the Devils Lake B Storm on Monday, June 17.
Not only did Cudworth prevent any runner from crossing the plate, he also allowed just a single hit and struck out 10 Devils Lake batters in seven innings.
To state the obvious, it doesn't get much better than that, and Cudworth couldn't have picked a better day to remind everyone why he's among the best pitchers in Class B baseball.
As Cudworth took care of the Storm's lineup, the Post 30 Black Sox found themselves constantly falling short on offense, and would have to rely on every one of Cudworth's scoreless innings.
Neither team managed to score a run for the first four innings of Monday's game in Devils Lake, despite the Sox having several opportunities with runners in scoring position.
They even managed to load the bases in the second inning, but still fell short of scoring that illusive first run.
It wasn't until the top of the fifth that Post 30 finally got on the scoreboard, and of course, it was Cudworth himself who got it done.
After sending a line-drive double to right field, Cudworth managed to score after tagging up from second base on a pop fly to center, and then crossing home plate on a throwing error from the Storm's cut-off man.
It was only one run and the Sox were never able to add on in the frames that followed, but with Cudworth on the mound, that single run was all they needed to earn the victory.
Though scoring was hard to come by, the Sox did have a few players that had excellent games at the plate. In particular, Easton Simon got a hit on all three of his plate appearances, and Alex Weisenburger went 2-of-3 at the plate.
The win for Post 30 came after a tough loss to the Post 25 Carrington Cardinals at home on Thursday, June 13.
Easton Simon had another strong pitching performance on the mound that day, but the Card's Grady Shipman was pitching even better, and the Sox found themselves down 3-1 in the bottom of the seventh.
That's when a disastrous throwing error gifted Post 30 two runs to tie the game and force extra innings, but Carrington would ultimately bounce back and secure a 5-3 win in the ninth inning.
The win against Devils Lake and the loss to Post 25 brought the Sox overall record to 3-2 on the season.
The Sox will host their next game on Monday, June 24 against LaMoure, who'll be looking for revenge after the Sox took them down this spring for the Region III Championship.
Meanwhile, Black Sox Babe Ruth got their first win of the season against Thompson's 2nd team on Wednesday, June 19, with a dominant 12-2 performance. The win came after a 12-1 loss to Thompson's 1st team on Monday, June 17, bringing their overall record to 1-2 on the season.
Babe Ruth's next game will take place at Mayville on Monday, June 24, and Mayville will come to New Rockford for a Babe Ruth game on Wednesday, June 26. Both games start at 11:30 a.m.
