Official Newspaper of Eddy County since 1883
Next Thursday and Friday, Eddy County 4-H’ers will once again take to the Eddy County fairgrounds for their annual Achievement Days.
4-H’ers will showcase some of the hard work they’ve been doing all year, including a wide range of livestock, small animal and static exhibits.
The event will begin with a livestock check-in at 8 a.m. on Thursday, July 11, with static project judging due to start at 2 p.m., which is closed to the public.
Then, there will be lots of fun to be had by the whole community on Thursday evening!
The evening festivities will take place from 4-8 p.m., and will feature plenty of activities and entertainment for all ages to enjoy.
There will be a bouncy house and foam machine to keep the kids entertained, and everyone will get to enjoy live music performed by the Mooncats, a popular North Dakota band who’ve performed in countless shows and tours throughout the country.
The Mooncats are a trio of bandmates – Slinger, Danny and Sky – who use a variety of American roots instruments to create a mix of new and old-time music on the banjo, washboard, upright bass, mandolin, guitar, harmonica and more.
4-H’ers will also be operating a food stand with burgers, hot dogs, brats, chips and refreshments. Much of the money raised will go toward the remodel of the 4-H static building.
As per usual, there will be a Cruise In and Bike Show on Thursday as well, so if you’ve got a cool car or motorcycle you’d like to show off, be sure to bring it to the Eddy County Fairgrounds by 4 p.m. to sign up.
New for Achievement Days this year will be the Ag Olympics, which is essentially a one-on-one ranch-themed obstacle course complete with cedar bales and cow milking. Competitors will go up against one another to see who can complete the obstacle course in the least amount of time.
Meanwhile, Hanson’s Bar will be hosting a cornhole tournament at the beer gardens on Thursday, so be sure to dust off those bags and come out to the Eddy County Fairgrounds and unleash your inner cornhole champion!
Friday, July 12, will begin with the livestock show at 10 a.m. under the pavilion. The 4-H Buyer and Family Supper will take place that evening at 5 p.m., followed by the annual Premium Sale at 6 p.m.
The Buyer and Family supper is a great opportunity to enjoy a good meal with the 4-H’ers and their families, and to celebrate their accomplishments from this past year with Eddy County 4-H.
Any individual or business interested in supporting 4-H'ers at the Premium Sale is welcome to attend the supper with their employees and families.
