Four youth gardeners helped lay drip tape and straw mulch on June 17. Youth Garden Club will continue to meet with Michelle Gilley at 3 p.m. each Monday for a lesson in gardening.

Rain every few days has the Sheyenne Hunger Free Community Garden looking lush. The potatoes, tomatoes and onions are especially nice this year. Ian and Michelle Gilley, Joanna Larson and Dianne Hanson planted onions, seeded cover crop and put down mulch just ahead of the rain last Monday.

Many around Sheyenne have been mowing, trimming and sprucing up ahead of the annual celebration over the 4th of July.

Val Bergrud painted the wooden part of the front of Ostby Hall. Gavin Brown has been scraping and priming the old service station on main street.

Last week, Curtis Larson and the 4th Corporation recycling team brought a trailer to Sheyenne to pick up aluminum cans at several stops. Save your cans and let Curtis know if you wish to be on his route next time.

Patti Larson attended the W-E Wind annual meeting of members on Thursday, June 20 at the New Rockford Eagles. Eric Myhre led the meeting. The seven-member board of governors remains the same for 2024-25. Several PRC Wind representatives were on hand to answer questions people attending had about the project.

Last Thursday morning, the house demo crew started with 102 Riverside Ave. The house and a few boxelder trees were cleaned up by 5 p.m. Thursday night, and stray cats and their huts were relocated from the house at 201 Richter Ave. It was checked to be clear of cats before demo began on Friday as the back hoe moved to that house. The demo start was live streamed on Instagram@sheyenne for residents to see the blighted properties cleaned up.

"We are a small town with many helping hands." The pickup on the loading dock on Main Street is ready for the 4th, decked out in red, white and blue bunting, flowers, solar lights and the American flag.

The Centennial Park also got a boost with new dirt. Joanna Larson and Jon and Ian Gilley helped spread the dirt around. Tara and Sandy Hanson planted flowers and grass.

Almost a dozen members of the Sheyenne Fire Dept. worked in light rain last Friday evening to cut and split a truckload of wood for the annual Stone Pit BBQ on July 4. The crew worked very efficiently with a skid steer, chain saws and a hydraulic log splitter.

The $225 blackout went when Dianne Hanson called bingo for the Sheyenne Civic Association last Saturday night. Kathy Albrecht and Bob Hanson sold cards while Darlene Kolstad served lunch. The civic association hosts again on June 29 when blackout will be $175.

Jon and Michelle Gilley completed setting up the drip irrigation at the youth garden. It is now ready for a hot, dry July – will see what happens!

Peter, Patti and Joanna Larson were supper guests of the Gilley's on June 21. A midsummer Swedish tradition of good food and fun ensued.

Saturday evening, Peter and Patti Larson attended the graduation reception for their niece Sally Crabtree in Minneapolis. They spent the night at daughter Sandra's in Plymouth, Minn., and returned home on Sunday.

Sheyenne extends condolences to the Messner family. Allen passed away in Texas on Wednesday, June 19. The funeral service was held at Evans Funeral Home in New Rockford on Wednesday, June 26.

Dave Rieger did a ton of trimming around the Hendrickson Park trees. Richard Hoffner also did some trimming at the park.

Patti Clifton rode along to Jamestown with Jan Loe on Monday. Jan kept an appointment and they did a little shopping while there.

Paul Deegan of Los Lunas, N.M., recently spent two weeks in North Dakota. He spent time in Sheyenne helping his mother Bonnie Deegan with chores around her yard and house, as well as enjoying some mother/son time. He also spent time with friends in Devils Lake and at Camp Grafton.
