No luck for the Sox

Post 30 falls to LaMoure at home; Babe Ruth defeats MPCG

After their game against Harvey was suddenly postponed on Thursday, June 20, the Post 30 Black Sox had plenty of rest going into their next home game against LaMoure Post 19 on Monday, June 25.

Unfortunately for the Sox, however, that extra rest did little to stop LaMoure's excellent pitching and strong defense from outperforming them.

Starting on the mound for LaMoure was Owen Lesko, who went on to pitch all seven innings while allowing just three hits, one walk and striking out seven Black Sox batters.

Post 30's starting pitcher, Keaton Cudworth, also played well from the mound, allowing just a single earned run while striking out six batters in his 5.2 innings of work.

However, the defense behind Cudworth wasn't able to play at the same high standards in a few pivotal moments.

A trio of defensive errors in just the second inning allowed one runner to cross home plate after Cudworth had already gotten the first two batters out.

The score would remain 1-0 for most of the game, until an errant throw was sent in the general direction of third base in the fifth inning, allowing another LaMoure runner to make it home.

LaMoure scored again on a fielder's choice a few batters later in the same inning, and they suddenly had a 3-0 lead.

The Sox only managed a couple of opportunities to score some runs of their own, the best coming in the bottom of the fourth inning when Alex Weisenburger and Luke Yri managed to get two of their team's three hits.

A walk was then issued to Bradyn Collier, and the bases were loaded with Black Sox.

Lesko wasn't phased, however, and he managed to get out of the jam with a strikeout on the next batter he faced.

In the end, it was an uneventful day for the Sox offense, which simply made it impossible to come back from a few costly defensive errors.

The loss brought the Black Sox overall record to 3-3 on the season. They were set to play at home again on Thursday, June 27, and their next game will be on Wednesday, July 3 at Langdon.

Meanwhile, the Babe Ruth Black Sox got a pair of wins on Tuesday, June 25 and Wednesday, June 26.

First was a 12-7 victory against the May-Port-C-G 1 team on Tuesday, which was followed up with a dominant 20-2 win over the Mayport-C-G 2 team the next day, bringing their overall record to 3-2.

Their next game is scheduled for Monday, July 1 at 11:30 a.m. against Hatton/Northwood in New Rockford, and they'll head to Carrington the following day at 5 p.m.
