Post 30 takes loss to Rattlers, Babe Ruthers strike Thunder at home

The Post 30 Black Sox suffered another setback on Thursday, June 27, this time against the Linton-Ashley-Wishek (LAW) Rattlers at home.

Much of the struggle for Post 30 of late has been their defense. In their previous loss against LaMoure Post 19 on June 24, the Sox committed eight errors and allowed two unearned runs, spoiling what was a good pitching outing for Keaton Cudworth.

Their very next game against LAW was a similar story: six defensive errors and five unearned runs allowed.

Another similarity? The Sox didn't manage to score a run in either game, and thus were unable to overcome their errors on defense.

Easton Simon was on the mound against South Border, and like Cudworth, he too was enjoying a solid outing. Through the first four innings he didn't allow any earned runs, but in the fifth inning the Rattlers finally managed to score a few runs without the help of defensive miscues.

After five innings the score was 0-4 in favor of the Rattlers; in the sixth inning they piled on even more runs thanks to solid hitting and with the help of a few more mistakes, bringing the score to a demoralizing 0-9.

No more runs were allowed in the seventh inning, but more than enough damage had been done and LAW took the victory.

With the loss, Post 30's record fell to 3-4 on the season.

On Wednesday, July 3 – after press time – the Sox attempted to get to their winning ways with a game against Langdon on the road. Their next game is scheduled to occur on Tuesday, July 9, kicking off a week of critical back-to-back games ahead of the region tournament later this month.

Despite the two most recent outings where the Sox struggled offensively, midway through this season many players have amassed some impressive stats from the batter's box.

Leading the team in batting average is Alex Weisenburger with .375, followed closely by Easton Simon .321, and Skye Kramlich with .304.

Meanwhile, Simon, Thomas Allmaras and Keaton Cudworth are also tied for the team-lead in hits with nine, and Allmaras stands alone atop his team with five RBIs so far this season.

Connor Knatterud – who has an impressive batting average of .286 – leads the team in walks with seven, and in On Base Percentage with .474.

The Sox will hope their best offensive players can return to form as they gear up for the final stretch of games.

The Babe Ruth Black Sox, meanwhile, got another win against Hatton-Northwood on Monday, July 1, taking a close game by a final score of 5-4. Their overall record for the season became 4-2, with another game against Carrington to come the next day.

Their next game is scheduled for Monday, July 8 at 5 p.m. in Nelson County.
