This coming weekend, there's another opportunity for New Rockford residents to help bring back the historic Rockford Theatre.
When the theatre suddenly collapsed nearly two years ago, New Rockford residents were no longer able to enjoy a good movie, delicious popcorn or the theatre's recently renovated interior.
But just because there's not a theatre for the moment, doesn't mean the New Rockford community can't sit down and enjoy a great movie together.
In fact, residents will get to do just that on Sunday, Aug. 18, when a portion of 8th Street North – just outside the hole where the Rockford Theatre once stood – will be closed off to host a movie night fundraiser.
Residents will be able to come by, sit outside and enjoy a great movie with the whole community.
A projector and speaker system have been donated, and Flair Boutique will be on site serving up smoothies and Italian sodas, donating a portion of the proceeds to the Rockford Theatre rebuild.
And of course, classic movie-night favorites such as popcorn, candy and pop will also be available.
The movie will be of a kid's genre, but is yet to be determined. If you want to weigh in on the decision, check out the New Rockford Area Betterment Corporation's Facebook Page for a survey asking what movie should be on the big screen. The chosen flick will be announced online sometime next week. In the event of inclement weather, movie night will be moved to the Brown Memorial.
"We encourage everyone to bring a lawn chair and blanket and come down for a fun night," said NRABC Director Amanda Hegland.
The event will begin at 7:30 p.m. Sunday night. Bring the whole family for a fun evening and to help bring the historic Rockford Theatre back where it belongs, in downtown New Rockford.
