Jeff Labrensz called bingo for the Sheyenne Fire Department on August 24. Dave and Bryan Rieger sold cards. Becky Ames and Diane Karlsbraaten served lunch. Blackout was $250 on the last Saturday in August (31st) when Sheyenne Civic Association hosted.
Trucks are starting to bring the wheat harvest in as area farmers began combining small grains.
Cement trucks, gravel trucks and pavement crews were also seen working on projects in Sheyenne.
Garden produce of sweet corn, tomatoes, cucumbers and more brought three growers to the Sheyenne Farmers Market on Saturday. Marliss Platz also sold preserves and baked goods.
Gary and Kathy Anderson stopped to visit on their way to Devils Lake Saturday evening when they happened to catch Joanna Larson stocking tomatoes at her farm stand.
Several teams played cornhole behind the Sheyenne Bar on Saturday, on the bar's 139th birthday celebration.
Jon and Michelle Gilley brought birthday cake and greetings to Joanna Larson on Sunday.
Sheyenne GRIT heard good news on Tuesday – Otter Tail Corporation Foundation approved a community enhancement grant of $3,000 to contribute to the rebuilding of the stone pit on the Log Cabin Museum grounds just north of Ostby Hall. The pit is used as an "oven" to roast 350 lbs. of beef every July 4.
Sheyenne had quite a storm early Thursday morning that was really a light show. Many locals probably heard the thunder clap when lightning struck a cottonwood tree in the back yard of Curtis, Val and Mary Olson. One and 3/4 inches of rain fell in that storm.
Patti Clifton was in Maddock Thursday afternoon with stops at North Star Community Credit Union and Tracy's Market. Later, she had coffee and a visit with Donna Smith at Harriman's.
Thursday evening, Joan Cudworth was a visitor at the home of Jan Loe. Patti Clifton also stopped in for a short visit with Jan and Joan.
Sheyenne GRIT board met Thursday, Aug. 22, at 8 p.m. at Ostby Hall. Patti Jo Larson, Patti Clifton, Laurie Westby, Sharon Whitmer, Tara Hanson and Joanna Larson were present. The board accepted the resignation of treasurer Darci Joseph and appointed Patti Clifton to the position. All expressed gratitude for Darci's service and the positivity she brought to the board. Patti Jo recalled that "Darci really did her homework on comparable real estate to make sure we didn't undervalue our 337 Sheyenne Ave. listing." Her accounting acumen was also much appreciated.
Other agenda items included status updates on the house moving project, with rough-in plumbing scheduled to happen on Monday. Larsen Plumbing of Carrington is doing the work. Interested community members can drive by to view the construction project at 301 Pleasant Ave.

With all the excitement in Sheyenne, several people have been wondering what is going on with dirt work at the corner of Richter Ave. (Eddy Co. 1) and Main Street (Hwy. 281). Nothing exciting! Just some work initiated by Joanna Larson to fill in a hole from slumping, buried debris from the old Corner Cafe. Some sand from the basement dig at 301 Pleasant Ave. was topped off with top soil donated from Greg and Dylan Rue's bin site project. Joanna filled sand, Nate Rue filled and hauled dirt, Peter and Patti Larson harrowed, raked and seeded grass.
Joanna and Patti Larson checked to see if melons were ready to pick at the Kruger farm. They visited Dawn, Stan and Marilynn while there.
Jim and Marjean Woodrow from Grand Forks stopped for afternoon coffee on Saturday at the home of Jan Loe.
Steph Loe and mom Jan were out for supper and shopping in Devils Lake on Sunday. On the way home, they toured White Horse Hill.
