Maddock, N.D.

Marlene Kay Scott, 68, of Maddock, N.D., passed away Thursday, Aug. 22, 2024, at her home under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley. Funeral service was held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2024 at the North Viking Lutheran Church in Maddock with Pastor Cassie Borges officiating. Visitation was held from 5-7 p.m. followed by 7 p.m. prayer service on Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2024, at the Nelson Funeral Home in Maddock. Burial was held at Greenwood Cemetery in rural Maddock, N.D.

Marlene was born on July 11, 1956, to Everett and Georgia Norton in New Rockford, N.D., where she was raised on a farm and went to school. Marlene began working as a waitress, cook and helped her dad plant trees for the soil conservation. Marlene was the proud mother of her son, Brent, and daughter, Felicia.

In 1985, Marlene moved to Esmond, N.D. and managed a restaurant. In 1991, she moved back to New Rockford and started working with the developmentally disabled, which she did until later becoming a Qualified Service Professional (QSP) helping individuals in their homes with daily living activities. In 1996, she met the love of her life, David (Sam) Scott, moved to his family farm east of Maddock, and married Sept. 14, 1997. Unfortunately, their time together was cut short, when David passed away Sept. 1, 2002.

Marlene's love for her family was no secret. Her kids, grandkids and great-grandkids meant the world to her. She enjoyed being outside, whether she was mowing, gardening, listening and watching her birds, having a bonfire or just relaxing on her porch. She enjoyed canning, baking and cooking. Marlene was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) in September 2022. She fought a long hard battle until she couldn't fight anymore.

Marlene is survived by her son, Brent (Mary) Williams of Moorhead, Minn.; daughter, Felicia Schultz of Lisbon, N.D.; grandchildren, Halley (Arens) husband Ivan Charette, Kali Williams, Hunter Schultz and Emerson Schultz; great-grandchildren, Bentlee Arens, Harlow Arens and Elijah Wanek; siblings, Diana Ziegler, Robert (Bobby) wife Alice and Larry (Barb) Norton.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Everett and Georgia Norton; husband, David (Sam) Scott; brothers, Billy Norton, Donny Norton and Paul Norton.
