Rockets fall to Thunder on the road

Violet Bohl's 1,000th career assist was the individual highlight for the Medina/Pingree-Buchanan Thunder in a three-set sweep over New Rockford-Sheyenne, 25-15, 25-13 and 25-23, Tuesday night, September 10, in the Pingree-Buchanan High School Gym.

The Rockets were playing just their second match of the season, and fell to 0-2 with the loss. Both defeats came to Region 3 teams, as they fell to Oakes in their September 5 season opener.

Ava Peterson led NR-S with 12 kills, and also was the top blocker with four. Other statistical leaders included Kaiya O'Connor (14 assists), Logan Cudworth (20 digs) and Bailey Jacobson (two aces).

The Thunder improved to 5-3 with the win, and were boosted by 15 kills and three blocks from senior Maddie Gefroh. Brynn Sorenson, a junior, had 11 kills, 18 digs and three aces, and Bohl would finish with 32 assists, 20 digs and four aces, as well as three kills.

The Thunder walked away with a 2-0 victory in the b-squad game and came up short 1-2 to the Rockets in the c-squad game.

M/P-B was also victorious in the seventh and eighth grade games, winning 2-0.

On Thursday, Sept. 12, the Rockets hosted the Thompson Tommies of Region 2. This game will be covered in the September 23 edition of the New Rockford Transcript.
