Doin' it best

The local Do it Best Hardware man, Randy Dockter, has been selected as September's Employee of the Month by the New Rockford Area Chamber of Commerce to be.

A native of New Rockford and 1991 graduate of NRHS, Dockter has long contributed to his local community, and for close to two years he's been at Do It Best Hardware helping residents with their everyday hardware needs.

Chamber members Andrew Presnell and Faith Presnell presented Dockter with the award on Tuesday, Sept. 19 at the hardware store.

When asked for his reaction, Dockter simply said, "Wow, I was surprised!"

As the manager at Do it Best, Dockter is responsible for keeping the hardware store operational on a daily basis, and he does a little bit of everything.

"I unload the freight, organize, set up the displays, cut glass, make keys, do paint, help the customers of course and pretty much whatever needs to be done," said Dockter, who added that his favorite part of the job is organizing and keeping the store in good shape.

He said he also enjoys chatting with the various customers who come in, sometimes about their projects and other times about whatever's going on in their lives.

"It gets kind of unique some days with people's different projects and just putting our brains together trying to figure out different things," said Dockter. "And then a lot of people like to chat and share their different stories ... and I always hear different things from different people. It definitely keeps the day going."

Twyla Solly is the individual who nominated him for the award, and she had this to say about Dockter.

"He is a great example of what customer service was like in North Dakota when I was young, and what it still should be," said Solly. "Randy has always been super helpful to me ... His knowledge of products at our hardware store is amazing."
