Sheyenne: Sept. 23, 2024

Tiffany Harr called bingo on Saturday, Sept. 14 while Denise Labrensz and Randy Keller sold cards. Patti Larson, Sharon Whitmer and Sandra Larson served lunch. Blackout will be $225 Saturday, Sept. 21, when Sheyenne Civic Association hosts.

Gavin Brown had a full crew on Sunday, including his dad and sister, to help remove lathe and plaster inside as well as three layers of shingles outside at the old Sinclair Station on Main Street. The Sheyenne community is cheering him on!

First Lutheran Church Council met at 10 a.m. on Sunday before worship to discuss the parish hall shingles and gutters, the Fall Dinner coming Sunday, Oct. 27, projects for God's Work Our Hands and other budget items. Patti Larson led the meeting, Irene Cudworth provided the secretary's report and Denise Labrensz gave the treasurer's report. All council members were present, including Dave and Diane Karlsbraaten, Bob and Dianne Hanson. The next meeting for planning the budget for 2025 will be Wednesday, Dec. 4, after Advent service.

Following the worship service, BBQs were served and about a dozen people stayed to do projects in the church yard and neighboring yards. Branches were pruned and pine cones were picked up. Weeding and trimming of shrubs were done, as well as cleaning webs out of the sign, railings and siding. It was a beautiful day to be outside and working together.

Sheyenne GRIT met on Tuesday, Sept. 10, at 7 p.m. at Ostby Hall. Laurie Westby, Joanna Larson, Sharon Whitmer, Patti Clifton and Patti Larson talked about how to advertise for the free lot, and worked on the application and time frame. Other grant project updates include a sale pending at 337 Sheyenne Ave., and the house is ready to move on to 301 Pleasant, but we are waiting for the basement walls to be built. The summer rains have building projects behind schedule. The basement footings, rough-in plumbing and floor are all done. Rodney Larson finished cleaning out the Creamery building across from Ostby Hall on Main Street, and has swapped that property for his Daley family property on Riverside Ave.

The deck has been detached and removed from the trailer house at the southeast corner of Johnson Trailer Court in Sheyenne. Cost of demolition and removal of trailer will be covered by the Rural Slum and Blight Removal grant. Also under this grant, the search is underway for a carpenter to replace siding, doors and windows in the Main Street store front and apartment building at the corner of Hwy. 281 and Sheyenne Ave.

A walk-in Immunization Clinic for influenza, COVID and any other recommended vaccines needed will be held at the Sheyenne Senior Center on Thursday, Oct. 3, from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., sponsored by Lake Region District Health Unit – Eddy County.
