Talk of the Town: Sept. 23, 2024

Hello, I'm back giving Talk of the Town another try. I'm combining Talk of the Town and Pleasant Prairie into one due to the lack of news. Folks were just not getting me their news or family happenings. I have been asked, "why no Talk of the Town?" That tells me there is still some interest, especially to folks who subscribe to the paper out of town or state. So, if you still want Talk of the Town, please call me at (701) 947-2986 at your convenience. We'll see what happens. Okay?

Monday found Jimmy Indergaard a visitor and supper guest at the Mervin Indergaard home, and Friday and Saturday visitor and supper guest at the Andy and Ruth Braaten home.

Shirley Packard is a patient at Carrington CHI St. Alexius Health. She is doing fine and should be coming home soon. Sharon DuVall visited her Sunday.

Saturday evening, Todd and Karen Koepplin stopped in at the Charlotte Koepplin home bringing ice cream treats.

Jimmy Indergaard enjoyed a car show in Mayville Sunday.

Last Sunday, afternoon visitors at the Charlotte Koepplin home were Leona Magnuson and Jim Dockter bringing apples.

Wednesday and Thursday guest at the Ken and Marvis Holte home was son Loren Holte of Bismarck. Other visitors were Cody and Amanda Bickett and Izzy.

Eloise Lucht received a good report following an appointment Tuesday in Minot for her eyes.

Cora Koepplin was a brief stopper Sunday at the Candy Jensen home bringing treats.

Charlotte Koepplin received a phone call from her uncle Eugene Weisenburger, from his daughter Nancy Huber's home in Montana. They will be coming this way for a day at the annual Steam Threshers Reunion.

Charlotte Koepplin received a phone call from Janet Laube that she was in a hospital in Fargo with a bad case of COVID. She is doing okay and feeling better every day.

One morning, Charlotte Koepplin was pleasantly surprised by a visit from cousin Alice (Pahl) Norton.

Brent and Jenna Helseth and family were hosts to the annual Fall Trail Ride of Circle Trail Riders over the weekend. Trails were traveled in the Pleasant Prairie Township area and camp was at the Helseth farm southeast of New Rockford. All enjoyed a Saturday potluck supper and traveled some more fun trails on Sunday.

Ken and Marvis Holte enjoyed coffee at the Chieftain Saturday and visiting with Lester and Val Ellingson and Alan Lange.

Saturday visitor at the Margie Anderson home was granddaughter Sandra Larson.

Friday, Margie Anderson was among those who enjoyed supper at Anderson Hall at the Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd.

Karen Koepplin was a brief stopper at the Charlotte Koepplin home Monday forenoon.

Norbert and Jen Holzinger of Morris, Ill. stopped in New Rockford on their way to Oregon to visit a son. Norbert's parents are Sue (Fujiwara) and Dieter Holzinger, former New Rockford residents. Norbert and his siblings – Heidi, Kurt and Tom – were very young when they moved. Norbert's grandfather Fujiwara lived in the corner house north of the Evans Funeral Home and operated the Rockford Café during WWII. Norbert spoke with the current resident and reminisced.

Norbert said his dad, Dieter Holzinger, lives near them and gladly makes the coffee at the church he attends.

Norbert's brother, Harold Price of Moultrie, Ga. came to visit hometown friends. Among them were Eugene Kaul, Ruby (Kaul) Simms, Patty (Kaul) Dennis, Shirley Packard and Calvin Packard. He will be seeing his brother, Jackson Price of Salina, Kan., who is supposed to be in town for a day of Steam Threshers Reunion.

Norbert, Jen and Harold stopped at the Prairie Cemetery to see the site of their grandparents grave with the Fujiwara black granite stone; plus grandparents Orville and Lula Price.

Patricia Dennis and sister Ruby Simms traveled to Jamestown to attend an interesting class about knee surgeries sponsored by Dr. Dean at the orthopedic department of Jamestown Regional Medical Center.

Last week while eating at the Prairie Inn in Carrington, Ruby Simms was pleasantly surprised when a former high school classmate, Marilyn (Roaldson) Nichols, approached Ruby's table to say hello. They had not seen each other since their 51-plus class reunion (Class of 1970). Ruby said, "Marilyn looked like she just got out of high school."

Ruby drove to Bismarck, N.D. last week to visit her younger son Travis Watson and friend Claudia Fode. She got to see Roger and Becky Watson, her brother-in-law and sister-in-law from Arizona City, Ariz. who were in Bismarck from Turtle Lake, N.D. where they have a summer home.

Chuck Nokelby and wife Rhizza flew to North Dakota from Maryland. Joining them at Marjory (Dockter) Bohnet's to celebrate Chuck's 77th birthday were daughter Mary and granddaughter Raven from California.
