Rockets fall to Tommies at home

The New Rockford-Sheyenne Rockets hosted the Region 2 Thompson Tommies on Thursday, Sept. 12.

Once again, the Rockets had to adjust to another rotation change, which seems to be the name of the game for this team.

However, the Rockets began to jive better during this game than the previous games.

The Tommies took all three sets, but the Rockets didn't give them easy wins in the second and third, as they were only 2-3 points down each time.

NR-S junior Ava Peterson led the Rockets in kills, earning a total of 16. In her new position at right side hitter, Emmie Belquist also earned double digit kills with a total of 13.

Peterson also led the Rockets in digs with a total of 18. Three others earned double digits for the Rockets – Kaiya O'Connor with 15, Bailey Jacobson, 11 and Belquist, 10.

The Tommies junior varsity and c-squad teams also walked away victorious, taking all three sets in each match.

On Thursday, Sept. 19 the Rockets hosted their rivals from 15 miles south – the Carrington Cardinals.

On Tuesday, Sept. 24, the Rockets will travel to Drake to take on the Drake/Anamoose Lady Raiders with junior high starting at 5 p.m., with junior varsity and varsity to follow. Both of these matches will be covered in the September 30 edition of the New Rockford Transcript.
