The New Rockford-Sheyenne Cross Country team traveled to Wildwood Country Club outside of Minot on Monday, Sept. 16 to compete in the Des Lacs Burlington Lakers Invitational.
Although the weather was not ideal – as it began downpouring just a mile into the junior varsity race – the Rockets had a phenomenal day of running.
A total of seven runners competed at the meet, with four earning top 10 finishes.
Liza Steele was the top placer for the Rockets, earning a first place finish in the junior varsity girls division with a time of 13:04.27.
Katie Cleveland and Makaya Heskin also competed in the junior varsity girls division and finished in eighth and 15th place, respectively.
The girls’ team finished in third place overall with a total of 57 points. Finishing in second place was Max-South Prairie with 55 and Kenmare-Bowbells-Burke with 42.
On the boys’ side of things, Gabe Smith earned second place with a time of 11:39.55. Seth Greiner followed behind and took ninth place with a time of 13:32.42.
Also competing for the Rocket boys were August Meier and Theodore Hall. Meier took 16th place overall with a time of 14:15.77 and Hall finished in 18th with a time of 14:21.39.
The boys’ team finished in second place with a total of 73 points behind Kenmare-Bowbells-Burke.
On Monday, the Rockets will travel to Langdon Country Club to compete at the Harvey Hope Invitational Cross Country Meet. The elementary race will begin at 4 p.m. with the rest to immediately follow after the compeletion of each race. This meet will be covered in the September 30 edition of the New Rockford Transcript.
