Rockets compete at Devils Lake Tourney

The New Rockford-Sheyenne varsity volleyball team kicked off their tournament season on Saturday, Sept. 28 at the Devils Lake Tournament, among 11 other teams.

The Rockets started off pool play against the Devils Lake junior varsity team. The Rockets and Firebirds split sets, with Devils Lake taking set one 25-12 and NR-S taking set two 25-14.

Up next, the Rockets took on the Larimore Polar Bears and defeated them 2-0 (25-11, 25-6). Also during this game, NR-S senior Kaiya O’Connor surpassed 2,000 assists. Congratulations Kaiya!

In their last pool play game of the day, the Rockets played the Bottineau Stars. And just like the game prior versus the Larimore Polar Bears, the Rockets won two sets over the Stars (25-14, 25-19).

The Rockets moved on to tournament play and were set to play the Kidder County Wolves. The Rockets won set one 25-19, but came up short in sets two and three – 19-25 and 12-15 – and lost out of the tournament.

The North Prairie Cougars were the champions of the entire tournament after taking down the North Star Bearcats 2-0. The Devils Lake junior varsity team defeated the Kidder County Wolves for third place.
