3 NR-S athletes take first place in their division
As many people know, it's been quite a while since New Rockford-Sheyenne has hosted a cross country meet.
On Monday, Sept. 30, six teams including NR-S raced for the gold at the New Rockford Golf Course.
The meet included a middle school race, a junior varsity race, a varsity race and even an elementary race.
The middle school runners were the first to brave the wind. With only a handful of boys and girls competing in this division, they ran alongside each other.
NR-S seventh grader Elise Guler earned her spot in first place with a time of 14:36.0. Micka Arlante of Warwick finished behind Guler in second with a time of 18:04.0.
On the boys side of things, the Rockets had five of the six entries. Seth Greiner took the gold and finished in first with a time of 13:54.0 with August Meier finishing in second, Theodore Hall in third and Casey Ystaas in fourth. Wyatt Nix of Medina/Pingree-Buchanan finished in fifth place and Bryce Yri of NR-S finished sixth overall.
Next on the agenda was the junior varsity race. Like the middle school division, the girls and boys ran together.
Taking first place for the boys was Gabe Smith of NR-S with a time of 11:49.1. A slew of Carrington runners – Chayse Steadmon, Kreed Kirkeby, Gabe Inglish and Sam Garr – followed behind Smith finishing second through fifth, respectively.
Carrington senior Kenadie Pazdernik blazed all her opponents in the girls' junior varsity division and placed first with a time of 11:54.0. Macy Fiebiger, Kaylin Pate and Grace Inglish – all of Carrington – finished behind Pazdernik in second, third and fourth, respectively.
NR-S seventh grader Liza Steele rounded out the top five with a time of 13:41.9.
Between the junior varsity and varsity divisions, students in grades K-6 were able to run the elementary 1-mile fun run.
The Rockets had a handful of runners compete – Amelia Smith, Teddy Smith, Clara Smith, Levi Greiner, Luke Greiner, Manny Meier, Leah Steele, Libby Steele, Lucy Steele, Emmett Guler, Logan Cleveland, Wyatt Cleveland and Fallyn Hegland.
However, Landin Clifton of Carrington was the first to cross the finish line for the elementary fun run.
Top placers for the Rockets were Emmett Guler in 11th place, followed by Manny Meier in 12th and Leah Steele in 14th.
The varsity girls took to the course next. Tessa Guariglia of Bottineau finished in first place with a time of 21:02.5 with four other Bottineau runners following behind her.
NR-S freshman Katie Cleveland finished in 18th place overall with a time of 29.49.0.
Lastly, the varsity boys race. Once again, a Bottineau runner finished in first – Trevor Bernstein with a time of 19:56.6 – with his teammate Mason Lauckner finishing in second with a time of 19:56.9.
