The New Rockford-Sheyenne Rockets were back on the court on Thursday, Oct. 3 against the St. John Lady Woodchucks.
The Rockets capitalized on the Lady Woodchucks, defeating them in three sets (25-12, 25-13, 25-16).
With this win, the Rockets' Region 4 record switched to 2-1.
During this game, the Rockets had to switch up their rotation, due to NR-S junior Ava Peterson sitting out from a recent ankle injury that occurred during the Region 4 matchup against the Benson County Wildcats.
NR-S senior Kaiya O'Connor has stepped away from the starting setter position and has found her new home as an outside hitter for the Rockets. With this, NR-S junior Alivia Yri has earned her spot as the starting setter for the Rockets.
O'Connor led the Rockets in kills with a total of 14, followed by Emmie Belquist with 13 and Kaci Weisenburger with three.
The Rockets had three athletes score in double digits in digs with Belquist at 16, and Logan Cudworth and O'Connor each with 11.
Yri had the most assists for the Rockets with a total of 27.
The Rockets b-squad and c-squad teams also walked away with 2-0 wins over the Lady Woodchucks.
After making the trek to St. John, the Rockets were back on the road on Friday, Oct. 4 to compete at the two-day Des Lacs Burlington Tournament.
The Rockets kick-started pool play against the Hillsboro-Central Valley Burros on Friday, taking a close 0-2 loss (23-25, 26-27).
The Rockets final game of the day was against their rivals – the Carrington Cardinals. The Rockets met up with the Cardinals back on September 19 and fell short 0-3. Once again, the Rockets took a tough 0-2 loss to the Cardinals(21-25, 19-25), this time in Des Lacs.
On Saturday, Oct. 5, the Rockets finished out pool play with a loss to the Des Lacs Burlington Lakers (17-25, 15-25) and a loss to the Central Cass Squirrels (21-25, 16-25).
The Rockets then went on to play the Kenmare Honkers. The Rockets took set one 25-16, but couldn't complete the win and fell short in sets two and three, 26-27 and 10-15.
During the tournament, NR-S senior Kaiya O'Connor surpassed yet another personal record. At the Devils Lake Tournament on Saturday, Sept. 28, O'Connor earned her 2,000th assist. Now, she has amassed over 1,000 digs. Congratulations Kaiya!
Throughout the entire tournament, Cudworth led the team in digs with a total of 54. Following behind was Belquist with 43, O'Connor 29, Yri 26 and Karsyn Wetzel with 15.
O'Connor held the most kills for the Rockets with 34 with Belquist behind with a total of 30.
On Thursday, Oct. 10, the Rockets hosted the Dunseith Lady Dragons and on the following Saturday, Oct. 12, the Rockets competed at the Langdon Tournament.
On Monday, Oct. 14, the Rockets are set to host the Four Winds/Minnewaukan Lady Indians (A,B,C,8,7) starting at 3:30 p.m. Following Monday's region game, the Rockets will once again be competing in region play on Tuesday, Oct. 15 in Cando versus the North Star Bearcats (A,B,C,8,7) at 3:30 p.m.
