Rockets compete in Langdon tourney; take 2nd in consolation

The New Rockford-Sheyenne volleyball team competed in the 40th Annual Langdon Area Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 12.

The Rockets started the morning of pool play off against the Our Redeemer’s Christian Knights. The Rockets fell 15-25 in set one and came back to win set two 25-22.

Next up for the Rockets were the May-Port-C-G Patriots. Just like the first match of the day, the Rockets fell 16-25 in set one, but came back fighting to win set two 27-25.

Finishing out pool play, the Rockets defeated the Napoleon/Gackle-Streeter Imperials in two sets (25-17, 25-19).

The Rockets took the No. 1 seed going into the consolation championship bracket.

Once again, the Rockets met up with the N/G-S Imperials and took them down 25-20 in set one and 25-15 in set two.

The Rockets then moved on to play the Devils Lake Firebirds for the consolation championship. The Rockets put up a great fight, but were defeated 25-22 in set one and 25-23 in set two.

Overall, the Rockets played a great tournament.

Logan Cudworth led the Rockets in digs with a total of 55. Following behind was Emmie Belquist with 45, Kaiya O’Connor with 38 and Ava Peterson with 22.

Peterson held the most kills for the Rockets with 29. Also in double digits for the Rockets were O’Connor with 22 and Belquist with 18.

Throughout the tournament, the Rockets earned a total of 35 service aces. Cudworth earned the most for the Rockets with a total of 11. Others earning aces were Alivia Yri with eight, Belquist with seven, Karsyn Wetzel with five, O'Connor with three and Bailey Jacobson with one.

Yri added 52 total assists to her stats while Peterson added 17.
