Rockets fall to Cougars, Titans

The New Rockford-Sheyenne Rockets suffered two losses this past week – one against the Region 4 North Prairie Cougars and another against the Region 3 Griggs-Midkota Titans.

The Rockets took on the Cougars on Thursday, Oct. 24 in Rolette. With North Prairie being the No. 2 seed in the region, the Rockets knew they were up for some good competition.

The Rockets and Cougars battled back and forth for each set, with the Cougars eventually pulling away with the 3-2 win over the Rockets (20-25, 25-23, 22-25, 25-23, 16-18).

NR-S junior Ava Peterson led the team in kills with a total of 20, followed by Emmie Belquist with 18 and Kaiya O’Connor with 13. The Rockets had many athletes in double digits for digs. Belquist earned 34, followed by Peterson with 30, Logan Cudworth with 29 and O’Connor with 22.

The Rockets b-squad, c-squad and eighth grade teams all walked away victorious over the Cougars. The seventh grade team, however, came up short 0-2.

On Monday, Oct. 28, the Rockets were back in action, this time in Cooperstown against the Griggs-Midkota Titans.

This match-up went similarly to the game on Thursday.

The Titans conquered the Rockets in the first set 25-15 and 25-22 in the second set before the Rockets began to push back. The Rockets came out on top in the third set 26-24, but the Titans came back to win it all in set four, taking the Rockets down once again 25-11.

Peterson scored the most kills for the Rockets with 18, followed by O’Connor with six. Leading the team in digs was Cudworth with 32, followed by Belquist with 22.

The Rockets b-squad, c-squad, eighth and seventh grade teams all fell short to the Titans.
