Saturday, Nov. 9, Marge Anderson, Patti Larson, Neil and Laurie Westby and many residents of Sheyenne, Minnewaukan, New Rockford and Devils Lake communities attended the funeral service for Myron Jury.
Besides his superintendent role in our schools, he also was very active in each community in which he lived. Sheyenne GRIT community meeting on Sunday started with a taco bar at noon at the Sheyenne Senior Center. Sandra Larson had prepared a slideshow that ran on the TV showing volunteers and contractors getting things done in Sheyenne over the past year. Patti Larson started the meeting after lunch with a summary of the over $300,000 investments in the community from eight grants. Work was completed at Ostby Hall, Hendrickson Park, 301 Pleasant Ave., 201 Richter Ave., 102 Riverside Ave. and Route 281. Other projects are ongoing.
The community is invited to contact GRIT board members with ideas or to volunteer on projects they are passionate about. Many volunteers worked on the house project, bingo, Sidewalk Market and tree planting, community garden and stone pit restoration. New volunteer opportunities will be available on the next house project - landscaping, cleaning, painting, taking up carpet and removing wallpaper border - to name a few.
The next GRIT community meeting will be after the new year. It will be an open house at 301 Pleasant Ave.
