Sheyenne News: December 9, 2024

Monday, Nov. 25 was the day! Sheyenne GRIT moved the Seastrand house into Sheyenne at 10:30 a.m. It was cold but the four-person crew from Carrington House Moving orchestrated the cribbing, beams, cables and jacks wearing hooded sweatshirts! It was interesting for spectators to watch the process. The crew knew what they were doing and got done just before dark.

Early Monday morning, Nov. 25, Ian Gilley drove to Max to catch a ride with his co-worker out to Williston, where the two led a Market Place for Kids activity. Groups of kids were able to visit various stations centered around career opportunities in North Dakota. Ian's activity was a game he invented, where groups had to build consensus around future baseload power generation and then feed their selections into an AI generator that returned a piece of artwork representing the groups' unique selections. The game was a hit and the kids got to take home a print of their AI-generated art. The goal was to get kids excited about energy related to career paths.

Patti Clifton and Jan Loe were shoppers in New Rockford and had coffee at Rockford Cafe Monday afternoon.

Early Tuesday morning, Dave Lutman's movers returned to Sheyenne to pick up the beams and ties. Randy Linderman, Dave Chenze, Brendan Myhre and Harold Gibson bolted the plates together, finished sealing up the exterior opening immediately after Larsen Plumbing delivered the furnace and one-piece fiberglass shower. All the while, the dump trucks were hauling the dirt for backfill, and Dave Rue finished filling in the north and west sides. Because the house moved on to the foundation from the south yard, that backfill was done earlier, which required heavy bracing. The carpenters did a great job – walls held and the house fit perfectly. The push was to finish before the ground freezes so the MDU line can be trenched in, which is the last of the utilities to be brought to the house.

Wednesday evening, Sandra Larson and Jasper Zarkower drove home from Minneapolis. Thanksgiving day, Peter and Patti Larson hosted Jon, Michelle and Ian Gilley, Sandra, Jasper and Joanna. Friday afternoon, the Larsons and Gilleys went out to get fresh-cut Christmas trees.
