After a fantastic football career at New Rockford-Sheyenne, Brody Weisenburger has committed to Valley City State University to play collegiate football for the Vikings.
With his commitment, the Vikings will acquire an accomplished player on both sides of the ball and a team captain who recently helped lead the Rockets to a state championship.
Throughout his career, Weisenburger has been to several football camps at the VCSU campus, and has some familiarity with the coaching staff there. So perhaps it's no surprise that the Vikings decided to extend an offer to Weisenburger, having seen first hand how capable he is.
"I've been to camps there, like team camps and line of scrimmage camps," said Weisenburger, "and the coaches are very homey it seems like, and it seems they've wanted me there and when they offered me I felt like I should jump on it."
Weisenburger has been an exceptional offensive and defensive lineman for NR-S throughout his career, and Vikings Head Coach Dennis McCulloch will be hoping he continues that success in 2025 and beyond.
They recruited Weisenburger to play defense, and he's already targeting a spot on the starting lineup.
"They just had their two defensive lineman graduate so I got a feeling I'll be able to climb the ranks."
On defense as a Rocket, Weisenburger amassed 129 tackles, nine tackles for loss, four sacks and two interceptions. And in 2024 alone he had 35 tackles, two sacks and three tackles for loss.
But what doesn't appear on the state sheet is his performance in the offensive trenches, where he reliably protected his quarterback and opened lanes for the team's running attack.
Carter Engbretson ran for over 1,100 yards for the Rockets in 2024, thanks in large part to the efforts of Weisenburger and his fellow lineman who led the way, and Weisenburger said there's a chance he ends up playing offense for the Vikings as well.
Meanwhile, Weisenburger also developed into an incredibly reliable snapper of the football, and spent much of his high school career in that position.
It's hardly a flashy job and doesn't get a player's name on the state sheet, but Weisenburger embraced the position and became exceptional at it – and for his efforts, he was named to the 2024 all-state team for offense.
The Vikings will no doubt be getting an exceptional player in Brody Weisenburger, and many Rocket fans will continue to follow his career as he heads to VCSU.
"I'm excited to keep playing football through the end of my teens and into my twenties, as well as just joining that family and meeting some new teammates, and hopefully winning some more games," said Weisenburger.
While attending VCSU for football, Weisenburger will also be studying business with a concentration in agriculture.
