Becker seeks to remain as NR-S superintendent

Natalie Becker, currently the elementary principal and interim superintendent of New Rockford-Sheyenne School, has announced her desire to remain the district's superintendent moving forward.

Becker was hired as the interim superintendent for the 2024-25 school year in April, following Dr. Jill Louters' resignation and a subsequent superintendent search that didn't result in a new hire.

Just over eight months later, during the NR-S School Board's regular meeting on Monday, Jan. 13, Becker has now told board members that she'd like to drop the interim title and remain the superintendent for the 2025-26 school year.

However, she added that she does not intend to remain both the superintendent and elementary principal.

During Monday's meeting it appeared that school board members were all but ready to hire Becker as their new superintendent, although no motion to that effect was made and not every board member was present.

School Board President Todd Allmaras suggested scheduling a special meeting within the next two weeks, at which they could go into executive session to discuss the superintendent contract, and at which they could officially carry a motion to hire Becker as superintendent.

Doing so would require the school to begin a search for a new elementary principal, but the board has not yet discussed how they'll go about that search should they agree to hire Becker as superintendent.

As of press time, the date and time of any special meetings had not yet been announced.

The next regular meeting of the New Rockford-Sheyenne School Board is scheduled for Monday, Feb. 10 at 7 p.m.
