Official Newspaper of Eddy County since 1883

Newspaper prices increasing

The cost to purchase this newspaper at the local newsstand has increased by 50%. The newsstand price for a single copy is now $1.50, effective with this edition.

Why the change? Well, we’ve done the math, and it costs us more than $3 per copy to produce a single issue of the newspaper. This increase is necessary in order for us to be able to cover even half that cost through subscriptions and single copy sales.

Advertising and public notices offset part of the cost but are also used to pay the reporters and photographers who do the hard work gathering the news.

We want to express our appreciation to those who subscribe, so we’re only raising the subscription price a little bit, and we're giving readers the month of February to renew at the current rate. Effective March 1, subscriptions will increase by $5 per year and the “seasonal” category will be eliminated.

Any reader who lives in North Dakota for even part of the year can subscribe using the in-state rate, which will be $54 per year. The rate for out-of-state subscribers will be an even $60. That’s just $5 (or less) per month to access hyperlocal news, sports, features and commentary, as well as news from around the state, each week.

The price of an online subscription, which offers access to breaking news as well as every individual article and issue of the newspaper published since Jan. 2018, will increase to $37 per year on March 1.

As always, online access is free with any print subscription, so make sure to sign up by clicking the “Free Trial” link at the top right of the homepage. Readers with online access receive a weekly email each Saturday morning when the next edition is posted online.
