Phyllis Hitz

Phyllis Ida Hitz, 87, of New Rockford, N.D, passed away on Jan. 26, 2025, at the Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd, New Rockford, N.D.
Her visitation was held Friday, Jan. 31 from 9-10 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m., both at St. John's Catholic Church, New Rockford. Father Bernard Pfau and Deacon Bart Salazar officiated. Special music was performed by Heather Klocke and Teresa Salazar.
Pallbearers were Jeffrey Hitz, Bruce Hitz, Nick Thompson, Sean Jurek, Corbin Thompson and Rod Thompson. Honorary pallbearers were all of Phyllis' family and close friends.
Burial was held at the St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery, Bremen, N.D.
Phyllis was born to Herbert and Alma (née Kanwischer) Zander in New Rockford, N.D., on March 9, 1937. She attended high school in New Rockford. On Oct. 8, 1956, she married Louis Hitz. In the years that followed, she and Louie settled into their farming life on their homestead outside of New Rockford. Phyllis was a loving and adoring mother to six children, grandmother to 11 grandchildren, and great-grandmother to two great-grandchildren. Phyllis spent many wonderful hours cooking, gardening, traveling and helping Louie on the farm. After Louie's retirement from farming, they spent their winters in Bullhead City, Ariz., where they enjoyed spending time with a group of other retirees they met there.
Phyllis is survived by sons, Jeffrey Hitz of New Rockford, N.D., and Bruce (Nancy) Hitz of Panama City Beach, Fla.; daughters, Karen (Rodney) Thompson of West Fargo, N.D. and Kristi (Paul) Jurek of Red Oak, Texas; grandchildren, Carrie, Nick, Tabitha, Tiffany, Thomas, Nathan, Benjamin, Charlotte, Sean and Samuel; great-grandchildren, Corbin and Remick; brother, Merle Zander; and sisters-in-law, Lois Zander and Julie Zander.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, sons, Mark and Shawn Hitz; grandson, David Hitz; brothers, Kenneth, Howard and Terry Zander; sister, Lois Jean Amundson; brother-in-law, James Amundson; sister-in-law, Eileen Zander; and daughter-in-law, Marjorie Hitz.
