Rockets take district wins over Polar Bears, Chargers
The New Rockford-Sheyenne Rockets are on a roll again.
Since losing a nail-biter to Carrington on January 9, the Rockets have rebounded with four consecutive wins, propelling them to No. 4 on the statewide rankings.
Their two most recent victories came against the Larimore Polar Bears and Nelson County Chargers.
First was the Polar Bears, who visited New Rockford on Thursday, Jan. 23 and were initially threatening a significant upset victory over the Rockets.
In the first half, Larimore's Jace Collison was hitting almost every shot he took, and in the first quarter alone he amassed 15 points. With his help, the Polar Bears found themselves leading for most of the first half.
Thankfully for NR-S, however, Collison eventually came back to planet earth in the second half. In fact, the entire Larimore offense was finding it difficult to score anything after halftime.
Meanwhile, the Rockets were getting back to their usual ways.
Bennett Meier had a great third quarter with 10 points, and he would finish with a game-high 24 points overall. Just behind him was Easton Simon, who ended up with 18 points.
Together they accounted for all but 16 of the Rockets' 58 points, which was enough to come away with a 58-48 victory over Larimore.
The Rockets' next game was considerably more straightforward.
Playing at home against the Nelson County Chargers on Monday, Jan. 27, NR-S efficiently took care of business.
By halftime they'd already built an impressive 20-point lead, and it wasn't long into the fourth quarter when head coach Tyler Cook decided to rest his starters and give the younger kids some playing time.
The Rockets ultimately earned a decisive 68-36 win, to take their fourth in a row.
The victories bring their overall record to 10-1 on the season, and their District 4 record to 2-0.
Their next game is against Hatton/Northwood on Thursday, Feb. 6 in Hatton.
