The New Rockford-Sheyenne girls basketball team has been taking down district opponents left and right.

The first team the Rockets took down were the Larimore Polar Bears on Friday, Jan. 24.

The Polar Bears gave the Rockets a run for their money during this matchup, as the Rockets held just a one point lead going into the second half.

However, in the second half the Rockets were able to outscore the Polar Bears, earning their first District 4 win of the season.

Ava Peterson and Kaiya O'Connor both scored in the double digits for the Rockets with 24 and 13 each, respectively. Larimore senior Sadie Aamodt led the Polar Bears with 15 points, followed by Meg Reinhold with eight.

Next on the Rockets' chopping block were the Nelson County Chargers.

The Chargers started off strong in the first quarter against the Rockets, but eventually gave the Rockets a 36-24 lead going into the second half.

Although the Chargers kept swishing huge three-pointers, it wasn't enough to catch the Rockets. NR-S clinched their second district win with the 63-52 victory over the Chargers.

With 33 total points, NR-S junior Ava Peterson scored her 1,000th career point.

Leading the Chargers in points were Brandi Lippert with 16 and Kenley Blasey with 11.

Following the game on Tuesday, the Rockets hosted Medina-Pingree/Buchanan on Thursday, Jan. 30 and traveled to Mayville to take on the District 4 May-Port-C-G Patriots on Saturday, Feb. 1.

On Monday, Feb. 3, the Rockets will travel to Glenfield to take on another District 4 opponent – the Griggs-Midkota Lady Titans (A,B,JH) – starting at 4:30 p.m. All three of these games will be covered in the February 10 edition of the New Rockford Transcript.
